Kids Cafe Day

The great thing about Kids Cafe is that you can personalise the day to best meet the needs of your class. Kids Cafe could run anywhere from an hour to a whole day. It all depends on how you set it up. Here is an example of how you could run it in your class.

  • Discuss the Kids Cafe topics as a class. Children choose their top three topics, using a Google form.
  • The teacher then organises the children into groups based on their choices. The number of rotations and activities per rotation will depend entirely on what the children have selected as their choices. The length of the rotations will depend on the types of breakouts the presenters have created.
  • Each table will be set up with a coloured table cloth, a poster explaining what the breakout is about, a device e.g. an iPad and any equipment they require for their specific breakout.
  • Each group will then be given a time slot to explore, learn and create from the breakout tutorial that the presenter has created. Remember these will all be easily accessible via ThingLink.
  • At the end of each breakout the group will complete a feedback sheet, where they will jot down notes for the presenter. These will be shared later in the week during the @KidsCafeNZ Twitter chat.
  • Stuck during your breakout session? Send a tweet to the presenter's class Twitter account. You could even organise a Skype session to speak face to face and learn more.

At the end of our Kids Cafe we will discuss as a class what went well, what the teething problems were and how we could improve on these next time.
